Seth Karten, MD has a Master’s in English and has worked as a scientific writer and editor for 14 years, producing materials in multiple disciplines: medicine, the life sciences, the physical sciences, and engineering. 

He served as the grant writer for Irving Weissman, MD, the Director of the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at Stanford University. Before that, he held a writing and editing position at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory.

Dr. Karten has written and edited print and web materials for various audiences, including the general public, scientists, regulatory agencies, donors, and funding agencies. His work has included the preparation of grant and fellowship proposals, journal submissions, Investigational New Drug (IND) submissions, lecture slides, and posters.

As a contractor, his clients have included several journals (Blood, Chest, PNAS, etc.); editing companies (Bioscience Writers, Medjaden, ThinkSCIENCE, etc.); biotech companies (Abbott Laboratories, OrcaBiosystems, Genentech); and the American College of Surgeons.
